Manny Pacquiao next fight: Birthday boy to choose opponent from top boxers

He is turning 35 tomorrow and still going strong. Birthday boy Manny Pacquiao is working hard to pick up opponent for his next fight from among top boxers.

After bashing Brandon Rios, Manny Pacquiao would have loved to fight Floyd Mayweather, but since the latter seems hesitant, for now Manny’s opponent can be someone familiar, hints his promoter Bob Arum. Though he and many of his fans are hoping to get none other than the best pound for pound boxer of the time Floyd Mayweather jr, but as his next fight is almost set we can be sure that Manny will have to pick someone else for his next fight.

His promoter Arum has said, “If you ask people who they would want to see Manny fight next, everybody would say Mayweather, but next to Mayweather, they would probably say Provodnikov. He’s the next logical fight. Who else would you want Pacquiao to fight?” Arum revealed that 29-year-old Pacquiao wants to beat Ruslan Provodnikov again, though the latter has stated he is not interested. Arum has hinted Provodnikov’s reluctance as a trick to get more money for the fight.

Provodnikov last fought Mike Alvarado on Oct. 19, beating him. Before that he had lost to Bradley. Another option brought forward by the Top Rank CEO is Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez and Pacquiao have four times since 2004. The first match was a draw, the second and third was won by Pacquiao but Marquez thrashed Pacquiao in the last one.

However, Marquez has said, “You know, Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter and we had a lot of great fights together. But I beat him. I knocked him out, cold. I think I won the other fights, but in the fourth fight, I knocked him out and proved who’s best. And he’s a great fighter, but there are a lot of them and Timothy Bradley is one of them. He has that win over Pacquiao, and he is very tough. He’s a fighter, a real fighter.”

Marquez, 40, had said this when Bradley had defeated him for the WBO Welterweight title. In June Bradley had taken the belt from Pacquiao in June 2012.  Now if Bradley doesn’t want a fight with Marquez, then his next logical opponent would be Pacquiao. Bradley has said, “Hopefully he will get into the ring with me. Hopefully we can fight again, and after I beat Pacquiao, then there is nothing else said about it, there is nothing else said about Pacquiao, ‘Oh he beat you once.’ No, I’m going to beat him fair and square and then I can move forward, then I can go forward, but I have to go back revisit that fight, I have to fight this guy.”
